BOB GARRETT began studying voice at age thirteen with world famous teachers Rose Allen, and Sue Seaton, whose students included Pavarotti, Audrey Hepburn, Donna Summer, Dick Van Dyke, Bernadette Peters, and many, many others. In 1978, they deemed Bob, the only person ever so designated, to teach their technique.
For the past twenty-five years, Bob has vocal coached countless clients in all phases of show business. His client list includes Katy Perry, Channing Tatum, Janet Jackson, Drew Barrymore, Gerard Butler, Jessica Lange, Vanessa Hudgens, the Pussycat Dolls, Cameron Diaz, Loretta Devine, Lesley Ann Warren, Wilson-Philips, America Ferrera, Cybill Shepherd, AMERICAN IDOL contestants, Bryan Stokes Mitchell, and for “ME AND MY SHADOWS: LIFE WITH JUDY GARLAND,” Emmy winners, Judy Davis and Tammy Blanchard.
Bob teaches private classes and his highly acclaimed Musical Theatre Master Classes. His students currently grace the Billboard charts and the stages of every musical currently running on Broadway.
BOB GARRETT began his career as an actor, starring on Broadway in GREASE as Teen Angel, played seven of the ten roles in GODSPELL, as Motel the Tailor in FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, et al. As a singer-songwriter, Bob next recorded for A&M Records, became a song-staff writer for Motown, Columbia Pictures Music, and for the television series FAME. His songs have been recorded by HEART, Smokey Robinson, Gladys Knight, Tina Turner and many others.
Mr. Garrett has also written lyrics for the Mark Taper Forum production of “STARS IN YOUR EYES,” Access Theatre’s, “FLAVIA AND THE DREAMMAKER,” and countless songs for many films including “THE FIGHT CLUB,” and many television themes including NBC’S “GIMME A BREAK.”
Bob has also written many sitcoms and teleplays and among others has directed Rain Pryor in “FRIED CHICKEN AND LATKES,” (for which he won the NAACP Director of the Year award), and “DARK HORSE” for the Blank Theatre Company. Mr. Garrett has also vocal coached for countless reality series including “American Idol”, Bravo’s “No Talent Required,” “Don’t Forget the Lyrics” and “GREASE: You’re The One That I Want.” Films include “Lucky You,” “Phantom of the Opera”, “Me and My Shadows: Life with Judy Garland” and the upcoming romantic drama, “The Vow” with Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum. Mr. Garrett also coached the composers on the score for Broadway’s smash “THE COLOR PURPLE” and is currently collaborating on the book for a new Broadway musical composed by the legendary duo Hall and Oates, due on Broadway in 2012.
